SNIPETS OF LIFE

I. Fragility of Life
Exiting the subway station, I see a white man with a very large round thing wrapped in plastic. It seems very heavy and burdensome. It's as long as the man is tall. A Japanese man is exiting. The white man carrying this heavy burdensome thing turns-not himself-to allow the Japanese man to pass-but instead turns the heavy burdensome thing. The Japanese man knowing the white man's intent was immediately enraged and lunged toward the man to yell. Again the white man simply turned his heavy burdensome thing-with force this time-it knocked the Japenese man off his feet, his glasses flying. The Japanese man shocked, rose and tried with all his might to get to the white man who the entire time never even looked at the Japanese man. He simply turned his "weapon" while looking straight ahead to his own destination. Barred by the subway gate and this heavy, burdensome enemy, the Japanese man had to settle for shouting "fuck you" as he picked up his broken glasses. Outside the station, as we waited for the light to change, I was struck by the tons of people passing us by who had no idea of the injury to soul, heart and spirit this man had just endured. He and I now standing on a busy New York corner-no external markings. Only broken glasses. What was there to do? Stare straight ahead at our destinations.

II. Nothing More to Say
A best friend-sister friend for ten years. We'd laughed, cried, studied, danced, talked about anything and everything together. Inseperable, we thought. What an evening to sit on the phone with you and have nothing to say. Worse. To know in my soul, what I had just said, had not been heard. We'd grown our seperate ways. Sister friend-inseperable we thought. We have nothing more to say.

III. Stuttin' and Free
Walking home one night there were 2 women and a beautiful little girl. The beautiful girl was at that age where thay want their parents but they also want their independence. A few times she let go of her mothers hand, to test the waters it seemed. The third time when she knew her mom would be there and was willing to let her go-we were on a sidewalk-visible-safe. She had been given permission and was ready to break free. The little girl took her chance. She ran at first. Then she decided in her newfound confidence to do the little girl strut. There is nothing like the innocence and freedom of an African-American girl of 5, confident and struttin'. Then a noise-someone unseen had closed a gate. FEAR. Instantly she stopped, unsure and afraid. As she retreated to the safety of her mom's grip, I smiled at having witnessed the sheer innocence and confidence of a beautiful African-American girl struttin' and free.

Moment to moment we never know where life will lead.

On your journey in the words of Mahatma Gandhi, always remember
"Where there is love, there is life."

Happy Valentine's Day to each of you!

THERE ARE TWO SIDES TO EVERY COIN

I truly learned the importance of community.

At Healing One-On-One I had asked the presenters to prepare for 40-60 people. Six attended. I was still bursting with excitement. But there were 9 other business owners, a musician and production crew. I called the business owners in the room and announced that it was a very small crowd AND that everyone that was there was there for a purpose; that it was exactly as it was supposed to be. This community of business owners didn't flinch-they embraced those present, they embraced the excercises, they embraced the community and they embraced eachother. Because of that, it was a magical and inspirational evening. It was a circle of 17 total and every single one of us left with something that we didn't know we had been searching for. I GOT so clearly the importance of commuity and the people around you. I was positive but that would not have been enough. If even one or two of the others had been disappointed or upset and carried that energy through the evening, the magic would have been ruined for all of us. It is extremely important to know who you are surrounding yourself with. It is extremly important to know that who is in the room with you is in the room for your good, your health, your well-being. It only takes one energy to dampen the experience of an entire room. No matter how powerful and strong you are, you are only as good as those around you. Choose your community, friends, partners, lovers wisely! It can be the difference between experiencing magic or experiencing disaster.

There was a moment when there weren't people lined outside the door, as there were at the last two seminars, when my old voice of doubt and fear started to kick in. But at my core I couldn't deny that I was bursting with excitment. For a moment I allowed the old tape in my head to get worried and upset, but then I remembered the excitement of the participants as they registered and I knew they wanted to be there. I wanted to be there. So, I could spend my energy focused on those that didn't want to be there (truly my past-I always focused on what I didn't have) or I could practice my new pattern which was to focus on where I was and the excitement I felt in my core. I chose to quiet my mind and BE what I felt from my core. The evening was a dream. I chose a new pattern. And I was surrounded by a community of people that were supportive and wanted to be there. The result, magic!

Afterwards I took stock of what I'm up to for myself and this business. I looked at both sides of the coin. Magic is wonderful. So is abundance. So I'm putting a hold on "doing" and going back to the details-reading and going to a 16 week business course that will force me to write out a full busines, marketing and financial plan. From Healing One On One, I got a glimpse of exactly what I want my seminars to be. They cost more money. And I got a glimpse of what I don't know about business. I'm choosing that both can exist simutaneously. Time to buckle down and get to work on allowing magic and abundance to occur at the same time-every time. In a safe space, safely surrounded by a supportive community, choosing to focus on my core, I was able to experience magic AND without blame or making myself wrong- know I need to learn more about the details of running a business. If I want to take it to the next level, I have to go beyond what I know-making an idea happen (building communities living inspired, fulfilled and free) to what I don't know-building a lucrative business.

Choose your experience and community wisely-you and what your up to in the world are worth it!

Plan of Action: Take stock of those around you-your comnunity, your friends, even your family. Notice if they are always supportive-that doesn't mean they agree with everything you say-it only means no matter what happens they always are supportive of who you are as a person. Sometimes you may find that out of 20 people there is only one or maybe none. Know that when you know that you deserve to be supported those "friends" show up and the others begin to disappear.

Quote for the week:"
Fail is a verb...not a noun. Unfortunately, too many people think that when they fail, they become a noun and call themselves failures. (What we're taught in school-an A means... an F means...) If people can learn to learn from their mistakes, just as children learn to ride bicycles by falling off bicycles, whole new worlds will open up. If they go along with the herd of people who avoid making mistakes, or lie, or blame someone else, then they fail to take advantage of the primary way human beings were designed to learn...and that is through making mistakes and learning from those mistakes."

YOUR TURN

When I first launched Emotional Money I discussed wanting to connect the dots. The dots of past to present, emotions to money, person to person, person to emotion, community to community... (see September 3, 2007) Healing One-On-One was exactly what I'd seen in my head when I first envisioned Samarra Am Management. Live music in the background, many inspiring conversations going on at the same time amidst lit candles and dimmed lights. It was perfect. Thank you production team Charlotte and Emily! Thank you "Healers" Kristina, Claire, Caitlin, Jonathan, Mike, Joanna, Dawn and Maria! Thank you for your beautiful music and energy Laraaji! Thank you to each of the participants!
Together we, as one, created and enjoyed a truly inspiring and magical evening!
Thank you!

Lord knows I can go on and on. There are so many things to talk about on this crazy roller coaster ride called "life." However, as we close the first month of January 2007, I'd like to check in with you. When I started Emotional Money, I envisioned readers chatting on the blog sharing their experiences and stories. Every week I receive an email from someone sharing their story or expeirence because of what they read on the blog. Thank you so much. It means the world to me to hear from you. Dots and connections, though not as I imagined - are being made. As I move forward to further solidify the foundations of Samarra Am Management, to continue connecting the dots, I would like very much to hear from you. If you have been a customer, a reader of Emotional Money or attended any of the seminars; Free Your Financial State of Mind, Adventures in Abundance and/or Healing One-On-One, please take a few minutes to fill out the evaluation below.

(If you want to remain anonoymous you can post it on the blog under a different name. Otherwise you can email it back to me at samarra_am_management@yahoo.com.)

HEALIN' TIME!

"REMEMBER"
Excerpt from a song by S. Ball
(c) 2001 by permission

. . . It's the challenge of our lives/to hear the voice of love
all around us/and within us/beneath the noise of mock and doubt
Remember who you are.

It's the simple things.
On Friday I woke up like any other day. I had 45 minutes to play with the kittens before catching my train-I looked out the window and instantly lit up like a Christmas tree. Beautiful snowflakes were falling from the sky and the street, cars and trees were covered in fresh pure white snow. I was out the house in 10 minutes, excited with my big boots, winter coat, scarf and gloves. A big smile on my face as I walked through the falling snow with glee.

I was baking some french fries in my oven. I had a piece of aluminum foil in the boiler portion of the oven and the baked butter from my daily bagel caused my fire alarm to disturb my very peaceful evening. I grabbed my fan and the instant I turned it on the glaring noise stopped. I was amazed how quickly peace was restored. Just like the snow caused me to be instantaneously filled with glee, the movement of the air from the fan caused the noise to stop instantly. It only takes a moment for something to send us skipping or send us screaming. Moment to moment we just never know.

Tonight at Ripley Grier Studios there will be moments where in an instant a one-on-one session will answer a question you've been asking for years, the healing ritual will sooth a forgotten pain, or you'll meet someone that reminds you of someone you once knew and you'll become fast friends. Maybe you'll come and simply enjoy meeting many people who are on a similar journey as you. Maybe you're curious and would like something to do. It only takes a moment. There are only a few slots left for the one-on-one portion of the evening. But once they fill up, I've now added an additional group event-chakra balancing. Either way-healing time and fun is the order of the evening. The order of the year. We are often taught to be healed means there is something that has to be wrong. But sometimes there is nothing wrong, we are just continually told that there is supposed to be. But the first definition of healing in the Random House College Dictionary is "to make whole or sound". I was perfectly fine the other morning and when I saw the snow it only made me feel even better. I was fine before the alarm glared but after the fan blew away the disturbance I was now consciously aware of just how much I had been enjoying my peace. "Healing" can be what occurs from a wound or it can be an experience that causes you to feel even better.
Healing One-On-One is designed for the individual, whatever reason you choose to show up, it will be a healin' that will be FOR and ABOUT ONLY YOU!
I hope to see you tonight for some Healing-One-On-One.

We'll begin with a healing ritual done by:

FLOUNDERING AROUND-WHAT ARE YOU GIVING YOUR ATTENTION TO?

"Why does my saying no to it mean saying yes to it?"

"When you give attention you desire and say yes to it, you are including it
in your vibration. But when you look at something you do not want and say no
to it, you are including it in your vibration. You cannot exclude anything
that you are giving your attention to."
By Esther & Jerry Hicks Ask and It Is Given
Thank you Paramjit for sharing this quote and for EVERYTHING!

This weekend has been very interesting. I had to get my kitten neutered. "Oh, for the males-snip, snip, Just pop them right out, it's nothing." But, I pick up my very strong-willed Panther to find his eyes unfocused and his head bobbing-he's trying to get up, but can't. He lifts himself then flops to one side, lifts himself, flops to the other, lifts himself travels for a few feet without his legs somehow and starts the process all over again. I try to explain to him to just go to sleep and wait until the medicine wears off(for some reason he doesn't hear me) and he continues flopping and thudding for hours. I'm reminded of many of the conversations I've had this week with myself and with my customers. We know we want abundance, we know we want our lives to be "different," "better" but we flop around from one solution to the next wondering why we keep getting the same results. We have our intellectual justifications and with each new solution-none of which causes us to take responsibility for our own actions-we keep floundering around. Panther's intention was to walk, my intention to get out of debt in a year, my customers to break old financial patterns that haven't gotten them the abundance they desire. For hours Panther expounded lots of energy when he could have been peacefully sleeping. He is an animal, so their extincts are strictly about survival (which is why with my new female kitten I had to get him neutered as soon as possible.) Mine to get out of debt in a year. When it comes to myself, I'm an extremely impatient person, I set my goals and want them yesterday so I don't make concrete plans. A habit. I've learned over and over from my customers, we can not see our own habits that really keep us from getting everything we desire. I realized, how can I ask my customers to step out of their habits-take a chance and watch what happens-when I wasn't willing to. So I did-I hired my own my financial advisor. What do I want? Wealth. My advisor recommended a plan based on my income that would start a cash reserve, life insurance, long term disability, 401k, savings, investement and get me out of debt. With this plan-it will take me three years to get out of debt. WHAT?! I was devastated. But once I pushed through that emotion-what am I up to? I'm up to creating wealth, abundance and security. Getting out of debt isn't the only line that will create that. It will certainly make me feel better but as my attention is going only to "getting out of debt"- a habit, what else is being ignored. Being patient and building based on a plan outside of my habits is what it will take to stop my impatient floundering.

I've had customers that have worked with me in the past who have returned and forgotten that when they pushed past their resistance that was when they were able to reach their goals. I've had people I've coached this week that have noticed their patterns based on their past emotions and have decided there must be another way besides trying something outside their comfort zone. When we do the same actions we get the same results. I know to accept what my advisor laid out because I am continously reminded in my business what happens when we choose our own way and what happens when we push past resistance and experiment with something new. Despite how "hard" it seems in the moment. I've watched my customers push through and call me with excitement because of what resulted. They got beyond what they thought was possible. We think the "hard" is concrete-it's simply "hard" because it's not familiar.

Eventually Panther, the next morning was able to walk again. But he looks very tired and worn. It's not to say we won't reach our goals but what's the cost to our spirit, souls, dreams and desires? In honor of MLK day Martin Luther King Jr. could have put all of his attention toward what he'd always seen and heard and been told about who he was. But he didn't. He put all of his attention and intention toward what he believed was possible. His actions based on his belief cost him his life-his physical life. What we don't know or forget is that our floundering in our habits is costing us our lives, too. Our spirit is the basis for the physical-Martin Luther King Jr's body is gone and has been for a long time but his spirit lives on. We think because of our past -where in many cases we're taught or we learned that who we are and what we want isn't important-we think that cost isn't important. Our lives, spirits, wishes and dreams are everything. What are you giving your attention/intentions to? What is the cost? We, unlike my beautiful kitten Panther, have a choice.

CALL TO ACTION: What are you giving your attention to?
Now, what have you really wanted to give your attention to that you haven't or won't dare to. This week JUST DO IT! Watch what happens.

FIRST: BE WHERE YOU ARE

It's the second week of the New Year. Many of us have given up already on our resolutions for the entire year because of our actions in the first week. Have you ever asked yourself why am I still doing the same behaviors? Why is my career, relationship, my finances not where I want them to be? In most cases. The answer is yes. You've asked yourself over and over again and each time you think you've figured it out. And you look up and the relationship, the job, finances are all still the same. The reasons we do what we do are based on the past. And it's so familiar that we keep doing the same actions even when intellectually we "decided" we aren't going to. The key is to first be honest about where you are. Do you have unopened bills that you've been avoiding for months but you say, "financially things are excellent?" Do you know you're not really happy in your relationship but when your partner asks, "are you happy?" you smile and say "yes, everything is great"? Do you say you're happy with your career/job/business and you know you haven't been inspired or excited in years? It's impossible to truly get what you want until you've taken into account where you are. I think we've been trained to not be where we are because there is a fear and hopelessness mentality. "Why bother looking because it's just the way life is?" But it is not true. I can't tell you how many times when I sit with my clients and when we work through the past emotions-where they are-and begin dealing with the numbers they always have a surplus. But they never dared even find out because their emotional past based in fear and hopelessness tells them to continously avoid where they are. The avoidance (looking over/back) and/or always wanting more (looking over/forward) denies us getting in touch with where we truly are. Where we are is the only key to consistently breaking old familiar patterns and attaining the abundance and joy that is right within our reach.
Get out of your own head.
Stop believeing you're all alone.
Be in communication with others. (Hire a coach, go to a workshop, talk to someone you admire and ask questions-surround yourself with positive messages and positive people. For many, family and friends have been the most negative. So try something different-don't share your ideas and wants with them.)

Call To Action:
First-Be Where You Are!
Second-Surround Yourself with Positive Messages and Positive People!
You are not alone!

Thank you Joanna Goodrich from Best Coaches Inc for sharing this story:

Beyond Marketing by Joe Vitale - You are Here
Yesterday I drove into Austin and met with the staff who run
my Miracles Coaching program and my Executive Mentoring
Program. In the morning The Today Show called, wanting information on
my forthcoming book, Zero Limits.

That's pretty big, but not as big as the news that came later.

At lunch with the staff, I stood up and told them something
that I felt inspired to share.
I put a dot on the whiteboard on the wall and circled it.

"You are here," I said.

I told them the whiteboard is like the map at the mall where
all the stores are listed and a little box says "You are
here" to give you your bearings.

"Where do you want to go from here?" I asked.

"Up," someone said.

"Off the whiteboard itself," someone else said.

"This is all good," I went on. "You all want to move up. You
want more sales, more results, more wealth. Right?"

They all agreed.

I then put another dot on the board, way up at the top of
it, and circled it.

"That represents where you want to go," I said.

I then asked the key question, "How do you go from where you
are to where you want to be?"

They were quiet for a moment, but then began saying things
like "Take a straight line," and "Do one thing at a time,"
and "Make more sales calls," and so on.

"That's all good," I said. "Those are all practical answers.

I added, "I'm going to tell you what I think is the greatest
secret to manifesting whatever you want."

They were quiet, not sure where I was going with all this.

"Does anyone want to know what the secret is?" I asked.

They all burst out laughing. They definitely wanted to know.

I pointed at the little "You are here" dot and said, "The
secret to getting what you want is to totally appreciate
this moment. When you are grateful for this moment, then
whatever is next for you will bubble up out of this moment.
You'll be inspired to take action of some sort. That will
lead you up. But the only way to get to the upper dot is to
live in this dot with gratitude."

That's the key to success, I explained.

It's wanting more without needing more.

I went on and on about being grateful, and how it leads to
that upward climb. Most of us aren't happy right now,
thinking we will be happy when we get to that other dot. But
the great joke is that when you get to the other dot, you
won't be happy. You'll be looking for another dot on the
map. You'll use unhappiness to whip yourself forward. The
thing is, it doesn't have to be that way.

The group got the message. They shook my hand. Smiled.
Showed light in their eyes. Walked away with a spring in
their step.

Now here's the really juicy part.

I got a phone call right after that meeting. It was Suzanne,
my assistant. She almost never calls me, and she knew I was
in a meeting. So I knew this call had to be important.

I took the call and to my delight I learned that Oprah's
people wanted my media kit. Oprah's folks are considering me as a guest for a show.
Oprah!
Now get this: I was happy in the moment. As I'm happy, the
next moment brings it's own rewards. As I'm happy in that
moment, it too gives birth to more joy.

All you have to do is embrace the dot that says "You are
here" and do what it tells you to do.

And when the phone rings, answer it!

Joe Vitale

When you take into account where you are-
whether it makes you cry or makes you smile:
Authentically be where you are-That's the first step.
I repeat:
Get out of your own head.
Stop believing you are all alone.
Be in communication with others. (Hire a coach, go to a workshop, talk to someone you admire and ask questions-surround yourself with positive messages and positive people. For many, family and friends have been the most negative. Try something different-don't share your ideas and wants with them.)
