INCOMING TIDE

Unedited

The sun is going to rise again and I have to keep breathing because I never know what the tide may bring in.
Tom Hanks from Cast Away

I ran into someone today that I haven’t seen in about a year. She had lost at least 70 pounds. She looked wonderful but what struck me was that she moved exactly the same. Her body was slightly bent forward, slowed pained steps, and when she stood both her hands were placed on her back to provide “support.” Everything in her energy was as if the same 70 pounds were still attached to her. I thought that this was a perfect analogy for how we often move through our lives, and how we view our finances. How many times have you paid for a bill and thought "but I have this many more?" How many times have you wanted extra money and as soon as you get it you think "...oh but if only I had…" You experience the exact same lack that you had a moment before you received what you asked for. The interesting thing about this dynamic is that no matter what the tide brings in, it doesn’t matter. Regardless of what is occuring in the present, we move through life carrying the weights of the past. The circumstances may have gotten rid of "it" but are you willing to truly LET IT GO?

TESTIMONIAL
"....wanted to let you know that as of tomorrow afternoon, when the electronic transfer goes through, I will have all zero balances on my credit cards. It was ten years and over $60,000 in the making, but it is done. I thank God for giving me the strength to make it through and not end up on the street. I started transferring balances about 5 years ago to get the lowest rate so I could pay off the principal and not just the interest each month. The time is here!

GOD's love and blessings...
Deacon Brother Ron Potochar

CONGRATULATIONS RON! May you move through life having shed this past weight!

PLAN OF ACTION:
What did the tide bring in? Is it exactly what you asked for?
Is the weight of it in the past, present or future?
SHED.

LOVE YOU!

As young children we are taught that there is a family unit and it is filled with love, kindness and peace. Seperate from the family unit, romantically there is a prince charming or princess, it's love at first sight and you walk off into the sunset living happily ever after.

As young children today we are shown images of screaming, fighting, being put down and kids yearning to runaway. Romantically, being a couple means being physically, emotionally and/or sexually abused. You may be unhappy sometimes and down right scared at others but more than anything you are not alone and this means that you are loved. You decide to stay no matter what because there will be no one else out there to love you.

The extremes of these ideals...neither is consistently true. When your own parents are the main source of your pain who can you confide in? When you find your prince or princess and you realize the amount of work it takes to maintain a good relationship, that must mean there is something wrong with you. When someone is interested and they seem really wonderful we can't quite trust it because there is supposed to be some horrible pains inflicted, right? If you won't inflict it on me then I will inflict it on you. And on and on the cycle of broken loves, familial and otherwise continue based on ideals that are not based in reality. The love that is everlasting, that acts as the foundation is your love of you. Everything else builds from that core source of you.

What is "ideal" is what is familiar. Just because it's familiar doesn't mean it's the best thing for us. This V-Day do something different. If you're single and always hate this holiday take yourself on a date. The best V-Day I had was last year when I decided I was going to take myself out and do the things that I enjoy on that day. If you're partnered say where you want to go, don't wait for the surprise only to be disappointed, speak up and say what you want. When we were born we understood that we were whole, perfect and complete. But after only a couple of years we learned that there was something wrong with us that only an outside person or action could make us whole again. I get to be reminded everyday when working with my clients that their smile returns when they are honored for who they are, not who they think or were told that they were supposed to be. The ease and abundance that opens for them immediately is breathtaking. I wish every single one of you a breathtaking week filled with love for yourself and surrounded by those unthreatened by you being who you are. HAPPY LOVING WEEK!

Meditation Seminar
Led by Gail Margulis and Jason DiTullio

Through periods of guided meditation and facilitated discussion you will uncover the power that Andrew Cohen's practice of meditation has to liberate us from the compulsive identification with the mind.

"The powerful thing about meditation is its radical simplicity-be still, be at ease, pay attention. That's the beauty of it-meditation means doing absolutely nothing. It is only in the exquisite simplicity of doing absolutely nothing that you begin to be able to see yourself in ways you ordinarily would never be able to do. "

- Andrew Cohen

This seminar will be held in conjunction with EnlightenNext's director of education Jeff Carreira and senior instructor Katherine Miller's virtual meditation retreat.

Cost: $20

BROKERAGE FIRMS
Unedited

Last summer I met a woman who was wonderful. She was a financial advisor for a major financial firm. I signed up because I liked her, forgetting that she worked for a company. Sitting down to sign papers, I was irritated by the constant mention of insurance and for an extra $50 you can receive...and if you give me the names and the phones numbers of others then...I wanted to lay out a plan for my finances that would help me save for retirement while getting out of debt. Why does insurance and references keep coming up after I already said what I was there to do? I still really liked her but by the third meeting I finally had to admit that I had made a mistake. This person was not working for me, she was working for a company and as an agent she had certain quotas that she needed to meet. Unfortunetely those quotas were not my priority but of course I liked her so there I was signing up for insurance but I put my foot down on giving out my friends phone numbers.

Trusting her, I blindly signed up for my Roth account. There was no minimum which was my priority at the time. However, I later learned that they deduct a certain amount of money per quarter from what was in my account. That was never mentioned of course. I had already paid my money for the year, I already had my leather bound binder with 150 sheets of computer generated analysis and when I was scheduled to go in for my next appointment, to add more insult to injury, I learned that she had left the company three months before. But I thought she was my personal advisor? Of course, I felt as if the wind had been knocked out of me. But at least since she was no longer there, I can leave this company especially now that I know I can have my account for free. Oh by the way there is a $75 penalty for transferring your money out of the account. What?! So there I remain.

The table below sums up the resources that matched with the books I've read or my conversations with other financial planners that I've spoken to as the TOP DISCOUNT BROKERS

BROKER WEBSITE ACCT. MIN.
Charles Schwab www.schwab.com $1,000
Fidelity www.fidelty.com $2,500
Muriel Siebert www.siebertnet.com none
Scottrade www.scottrade.com $500
Sharebuilder www.sharebuilder.com none
TD Ameritrade www.tdameritrade.com none

Note: If you're interested in the places that have minimums listed, call them because in some cases they waive the minimum if you set up automatic deposits.

Definition of Brokerage Firm - a firm engaged in buying and selling stocks and bonds for clients
The American Heritage Dictionary

On this Super Tuesday I'm going share another faux pas. I always thought brokerage firms were only if you were a stock broker doing trades in the stock market. Yes, I know. But in case I'm not the only one, I want to share that, this isn't the case. They have CD's, Roth Accounts, Mutual Funds, checking accounts that charge less then the fees of the banks in many cases. In the event that you decide you want to enter the stock market you pay them an amount per trade. You can use the accounts that you have opened with them as your source of financing the trade or not. They have the right to broker but that is not all that they do.

We are living in a very important time in our history, there is no time like the present for putting your finances in order! I hope me sharing my faux pas can help you make better choices!
